Business as Usual

Well, the holidays are officially over and it’s back to business as usual. This time of year is always weird to me. During Christmas and New Years you get lulled into this lifestyle of delicious food, family and relaxation, and just feel like that is the way things should be. Then all of a sudden you are expected to go back to work, eat rushed meals and meet deadlines like this past two weeks of paradise never happened. It is always a little bit disconcerting and takes a few days to readjust to real life.

That’s the way it usually goes anyway. This year was a little bit different, since I had a round of chemo the Monday after Christmas. Luckily the family part didn’t change, and that’s all that really matters, although I did miss some of the delicious meals that I tend to love a little bit too much. While everyone else has undoubtably been packing on a few this past week, I’ve gone on the ultimate quick weight loss plan, dropping 10 pounds in a week! Thankfully I’ve spent the past 2 years beefing up a bit, in obvious preparation for this, so I had about 15 pounds to lose. I think the nausea is starting to curb now though, so hopefully I won’t drop too much more. We’ll see. I wake up each morning thinking that the side effects from this 3rd round of chemo are about done, but am quickly assured that they are not. Just walking into the next room leaves me exhausted and ready to grab a seat. After looking at my blood counts today, it sounds like I am going to need a blood transfusion on Wednesday, so hopefully that will help put a little spring back in my step!

Tomorrow is also my last day of radiation! The skin on my leg is looking pretty raw, so that is coming at just the right time. As radiation and the side effects from this third round of chemo wrap up we are also beginning our search for a surgeon. We will have several consultations in the coming weeks and get opinions on what the best course of action will be to minimize the risk or recurrence.

So I guess it’s back to work! I hope everyone has a pleasant adjustment back to real life again after a wonderful holiday season with family and friends!

I just had a nasty virus and I kept thinking about you. I am so sorry you are having to experience even a hint of the way I felt. Not to mention the rest of it all. I take comfort and encouragement from this verse often: Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Lord, I pray a blessing of healing, relief, and wisdom over Rob and his “team.”
