We had an early visit from Santa Claus today, hidden in the guise of the PET Scan results! The PET Scan does several things, but one of the main reasons we look at it is because it measures the level of malignancy of my tumor. When we did the original PET Scan, my level was a 19. A level of 3 is malignant. Needless to say, 19 is ridiculously high. The tests we did yesterday showed that my level is now an 8!
Talk about a huge answer to prayer!
With my leg looking like it was the exact same size as before we started, Dr. Rosen was very worried. He couldn’t be there today, but Adrienne, his nurse practitioner told us that he was so worried that he had called in asking about the results since he hadn’t heard yet. She said that they were all very concerned and these results were a huge relief that they were very excited to hear!
We still aren’t sure why my leg hasn’t shrunk. It could be because there is some internal bleeding or muscle inflammation, but the important thing is that the tumor is responding to the chemo. So we will continue with plans as they were. I will start the third round of chemo on Monday. This will be a new mix of drugs that I will receive over a 4 hour period each day in the NYU Cancer Center. I will be sent home with a bag like last time, but the bag will just be filled with fluids this time around. But we’ll think about that stuff more when it comes next week. Today I’m just going to relax and celebrate the good news!
Talk about a great early Christmas present and a huge answer to prayer! Thank you to everyone who was lifting us up during this time, and I hope you all have a great Christmas and travel safely over the holidays!
